1. Black pepper + Honey
A spoon full of both the
ingredients mixed, that is powdered black pepper and honey works as a cough
suppressant. The black pepper is rich in anti-bacterial and anti-viral
properties on the other hand honey is enormously rich in antioxidants. Black
pepper helps to de-clog nose and decrease chest congestion.

Turmeric + Honey
Another brilliant way to
treat cough and cold. When turmeric is mixed in honey, it is called as golden
honey in Ayurveda. Turmeric is a natural antibiotic used in households. It
contains an active compound called as curcumin which when absorbed by body
helps in recovering from viral infections. A tea spoon full of both the
compounds is enough for a day before going to bed.

Giloy water ( Tinospora
cordifolia (common names gurjo, heart-leaved moonseed)
Giloy, the most popular
plant nowadays is really doing wonders. The churned stem of giloy boiled in
water, till the decoction or the fluid reduces to half of the quantity is the
best way to consume it. Giloy has several antipyretic properties which makes it
so famous. It improves immune system and also manages chronic fever.

Steam of Boil water +
Carom seeds (ajwain) + Cloves (laung)
The carom seed consists
of thymol an active compound known for its anti-inflammatory and antifungal
properties. And the Cloves are known for their antimicrobial ones. Best
mixture to deal with clogged nose. Boil the mixture and take its steam with
deep breathes.

Raw Carom seeds
A spoon full of raw carom
seeds in morning on empty stomach. Better way to go for a good digestion as
constipation is one of the symptoms for infection and balancing the aggravated
cough. It

Women
who are pregnant should not take corom seeds because it has adverse affects on
fetal devlopment.

Steam of Boil water +
Carom seeds + Basil (tulsi)
The same way of
consumption, that is boiling the ingredients in water and take steam with deep
breathes. Basil leaves can’t be ignored when talking about cough and cold and
also they don’t need any kind of intro for their valuable properties.
7.
Steam of Boil water +
Mint
Water boiled with mint
leaves in the form of steam is the simple way to have it. Acts as a reliever
from cough and the throat irritation happens due to allergies and infection.
8.
Sesame oil/ Coconut oil
+ Ghee
Apply any of the above
oils in and around the nostrils, doesn’t need to pour just apply it by taking
in finger or cotton. This type of remedy of applying several or medicated oils
in nostrils is called as Nasya in ayurveda. The compounds present in oils gain
various properties which prevents the attack of pathogens or entry in the
respiratory tract by forming a biofilm that acts as a barrier for foreign
agents.

Herbal tea or Decoction
(kadha)
The most basic remedy or
nuskha followed in most households is preparing decoction or kadha at home
using various spices and antibiotic plant parts easily available. Basil +
Cinnamon (dalchini) + Black pepper + Dry ginger (sonth) + Raisins + Jaggery +
Turmeric + Water boil all the compounds
till half quantity is reached.

Camphor + Carom seeds +
Cloves
Wrap the compounds in a
cotton cloth together and use it as an inhaler or make potli. For this many
rumors are flanked around on social media that it could increase oxygen levels
but no scientific evidences are found till now, whereas it provides relief in
mild respiratory tract infection conditions.

Gargle and mouth rinse
This is another basic
thing could be done easily at home is cleaning mouth and throat thoroughly. The
remedy cleanses up the pharynx, oral cavity and tonsillar area which are the
first and most targeted areas for any foreign agent to attack. Add any one of the listed compounds in boiled
water (keep temperature that could be easily consumed) :

Liquorice stems (mulethi). Have

Precautions for the remedies:

The consumptions of honey
mixtures should be preferred to be taken before bed, so as to avoid consumption
of water or any other type of food.

Giloy remedies or any type of
giloy medication should not be taken by the patients of diabetes as it may lead
to low blood sugar levels.

Patients suffering already from
autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and lupus
must also avoid the usage of giloy.
·
The carom seed and clove steam
should not be given to infants directly.
·
Carom seeds should not be
overused as it may cause stomach ulcers.
·
Patients of diverticulitis,
liver diseases and ulcerative colitis have to avoid carom seed remedies.
