Cinnamon (Dalchini): An Aroma

Cinnamon stick,cinnamon flavour,Real cinnamon

A famously used spice in Indian households, mixed in the dishes for its aroma and taste, basically called as Cinnamon or dalchini in hindi (in Indian origin). The brown yellowish cinnamon sticks present in our spice’s box is generally the bark of a plant called Cinnamomum zcylonium specie belongs to a family called as lauraceae. The specie is a small evergreen tree native to northeast India, Srilanka (Ceylon), Indonesia, Burma and the southern part of the Asian continent. The aromatic value is due to the Cinnamonaldehyde oil which is present abundantly in the bark of plant and thus is used to add taste to food.

The plant as well as the spice is of higher importance used in Ayurveda for treatments, Chinese folk medicine, dish enhancer, for treating diabetes, lowering high cholesterol value, obesity, improving digestion strength. Also, used as medicine for the premature ejaculation and externally applied oil helps from insect bites, and as home remedies

Well now the question arises!

Do the cinnamon we use or we buy is real?

Cinnamon,Real cinnamon,cinnamon stick

And the answer is it’s not the real one. The fake cinnamon sticks or cinnamon powder we use in our daily diet is actually the specie of the same family lauraceae called as Cinnamomum cassia or commonly called as split cassia(used in India). This fake specie or the copy is mostly grown in china, Thailand, a small part of India, and Vietnam. This spice is very harmful compared to the benefits possessed in the real cinnamon. The Split Cassia consists of the blood thinning component called as Coumarin which can damage the liver if took in larger amounts. In addition it contains an element called styrene, basically styrene is a chemical is used to make latex, synthetic rubber and polystyrene resins and henceforth these resins are then used to make the plastic and disposable cups.

Now, we can imagine the thing we actually eat is highly harmful to our body.

Why do we use the fake cinnamon?

The reason behind is because it is the one available in market an that’s because the real cinnamon grown in our country is exported to other developed countries and sold at high prices 4 to 5 times more than the fake ones in order to earn high profits and the split cassia is imported to India  and sold to us at low price and thus we buy it happily and harm our body with our own hands.

Now it is up to you what you do for your health.
